Well, it's a match made in heaven. I couldn't have asked for a better, more-well-suited placement for Mr. Lime.
Mr. Lime, now officially known as Knut (pronounced ka-noot, accent on second syllable -- the same name as the first polar bear ever born in captivity), is going to live in Maryland with his new owner Cori and Cori's retired mom. He's also going to have a new best canine bud named (of all names) "Tucker" -- Cori's best friend's yellow Lab. All are experienced dog owners and Lab lovers, and we have no question Knut has found his perfect forever family.
Here he is with his new mom as they were getting ready to depart this morning:
And he, of course, had a gazillion kisses for his new mom (Knut has always been a kisser):
Congrats, Cori and Knut! We're excited for you and for the full life you'll enjoy together.
And, in case you're wondering, yes, I did have a good cry this morning with my face buried in Mr Lime's little neck. But they were good tears. We'll miss him, of course, especially after all we've been through together (we've grown quite attached). But it does my heart such good to know how well he'll be loved, treasured, cared for, and enjoyed, and to know how much he'll enrich the lives of his new family members.
Ahhh... sigh. Mornings like these remind me of why we do this. What a privilege it is.
'Til next time,
Joan

So happy and littl teary at te same time.
Me too, happy and sad both.
I think that little polar bear (now a big one) was just famous from publicity. I think there have been many polar bears born in captivity. They are pretty robust. Just being a pedant, sorry.
