We Survived Our Six-Week-Old Vet Visit!

We took our second trip in the car today.  We don't remember our first car ride since we were only four days old then. But this trip was an adventure. We got to ride in something called "crates" -- something Momma Joan says we have to learn more about in the next two weeks.  And we got to sniff lots of new scents. We weren't too sure about this though. Some of us whimpered a little, but Momma Joan sat next to us and sang to us and we felt better.

Then the car stopped and Daddy Don put us on this rolly thing with wheels (he called it a "dolly"). We liked rolling along behind him. That was fun.

Daddy Don rolled us into a new place with lots of doggy smells and other critter smells. We saw big doggies there that we'd never seen before.  The humans there all thought we were pretty special.  They "oooo-ed" and "awwww-ed" and said we were "gorgeous" but we don't know what that means. We just like humans.

It started to get a little too busy with too many humans wanting to see us, so Daddy Don rolled us over to a quieter corner where we sat. We started to get really hot with three of us stuffed into each of these crate thingies. We tried to wrassle, but there wasn't enough room. And then we got rolled into a tiny little room with the big shiny thing in it.

A really nice girl human took each of us, one at a time, and put us on the shiny ledge. She said she was "weighing" us.  Momma Joan never used anything like this to weigh us before!

Note from Momma Joan: here are their weights, largest to smallest:
  • Master Yellow:  15 pounds 4 ounces
  • Master Red: 15 pounds 1 ounce
  • Master Green: 14 pounds 2 ounces
  • Miss Lime: 14 pounds 1 ounce
  • Master Blue: 13 pounds 4 ounces
  • Miss Pink: 12 pounds 3 ounces

While we took turns being weighed and examined, the rest of us waited in the crates. We got hot.

And we let everyone know we were hot. Our voices really echoed in that tiny room.  It hurt Momma Joan's ears. Then it was time for our exams.
Dr. Wagner looked at our teeth, our jaw alignment, the roofs of our mouths, our eyes, our noses and our ears. He listened to our hearts and our breathing. We looked and sounded fine.
Then Dr. Wagner moved our legs in all kinds of directions (somebody said something about checking our joints and our "range of motion" -- whatever that is). Everybody did just fine!

Some of us were a little nervous.
Miss Lime shook all over. She was scared.

But we all eventually settled down.

Then came the really scary part. First we got a shot (they said it was a "DHPP vaccine") but that wasn't so bad. Some of us didn't even notice when Dr. Wagner gave it to us. Then we got to drink this yummy yellow creamy liquid (somebody said something about routine de-worming). Dr Wagner squirted it in our mouths with the little syringe you see laying on the table above. It was tasty.  Oooo... but then came the big ow-eee: He put "microchips" beneath the skin between our shoulders, and he used a really fat needle to do that, and it hurt.  Miss Pink really didn't like it and yelped the loudest. But we all recovered quickly.

Master Red was the last to get his exam, and by then he was kinda sleepy. He didn't mind any of it. Even the big scary microchip needle part. He just took that in stride.

And then Master Red just wanted to nap.

Oh boy, and then we got to go for a rolly ride again.  That was fun. :)

Then we got to ride in the car again. Daddy Don drove and Momma Joan sat next to us again. We were much quieter on the trip home. We were tired.

And then we were home!  Oh boy!  Bounding and romping and wrassling and wiggling and waggling and exploring like we never left! We've even decided we like those crate things. They feel like cozy little dens.  See!  We survived!  =o )

Note from Momma Joan:  All the pups did fabulously, and all "passed" their vet checks with flying colors. In addition to their exams, they received their six-week-old vaccines (DHPP); they were dewormed (just routine), and they received their microchips (permanent ID markers). They're all cleared for placement in their forever homes.

Speaking of forever homes, we're delighted that Miss Lime, Miss Pink, and Master Red have fabulous families and living situations awaiting them when they're ready to leave us in two weeks. We're still watching Master Green (he seemed to lag behind the others in coordination there for a little while, but  seems to be catching up well now, and Dr. Wagner has no concerns about him, but we want to be sure first). Master Blue and Master Yellow are still awaiting their forever homes, but we're certain the right humans are out there somewhere.

So that's the latest from the gang!  Stay tuned for some fun pictures from this week's other adventures.

Until then,
Joan

Can't believe they are almost ready for their forever homes. I'm going to miss them when they are gone. Not as much as you will but alas no puppy smiles for me. Guess I'll have to rely on my big puppy for that.

I'm so glad you posted their weights - I was wondering about the difference in the 6 week weight of our babies.

Such good puppies! I am amazed at their weight! When my Lab Uma was 6 weeks old, she weighed 10 pounds and I thought that was big. But I had never had a dog before her. She was one of those short-legged "English" style Labs. Yours continue to look wonderful.
