Introducing the gang so far:
First pup (Mr. Blue): 1:40 p.m. A BOY (Black coat) weight: 12 oz
Second pup (Miss Pink): 2:45 p.m. A GIRL (Chocolate coat) weight: 15 oz
Third pup (Miss Sky): 3:24 p.m. A GIRL (Black coat) weight: 13 oz
So far so good. We'll be at it for the next several hours, but Kenya seems to be pausing for a moment.
Three noteworthy things:
1. Kenya is a stealth whelper (gave NO warning).
2. Kenya whelped her first puppy on the sofa while I was talking to our vet who had just called, then promptly trotted off, knocking the pup off the sofa. I heard a soft thud, then puppy squeak. That's how I knew she'd delivered #1. I promptly dropped the phone, Dr. Wagner on the line, to scoop up the pup. Details to follow.
3. Kenya had absolutely NO interest in the pup. NO interest in eating the placenta, NO interest in licking or grooming or anything. She's doing a little better now, but still isn't quite getting it. VERY different that Elsie. But Kenya's mommy-instincts will kick in soon enough.
That's it for now. Back to doggie duty. Here are a few early pics to tied you over.
This is little Miss Pink nursing on Miss Sky's ear:
Here are Mr. Blue and Miss Pink nursing (Miss Sky wasn't born yet):
Ohboyohboyohboy! Puppy squeaks and puppy whale songs! :) I'll post video will audio later.
Until then,
Joan
