Six Days Old: Life in the Whelping Box

Life in the whelping box consists mainly of sleeping, twitching (normal neurological development in puppies -- twitching is good), sleeping, vocalizing, sleeping, nursing, sleeping, squiggling, sleeping, finding Momma Elsie, sleeping, finding each other, sleeping, sniffing, sleeping, and...oh...did I mention sleeping?!

The pups sleep 90% of the time. But don't let that fool you into thinking they're not busy. They're incredibly active in their sleep growing and developing, especially neurologically, which is why you see all that twitching and jerking (sometimes quite violently) during their slumber.

Here's a random four minutes of their life in the whelping box. It's nothing dramatic, but it will give you an idea of what they're up to these days. :)

(Apologies for an aocasional glare; video was shot Wednesday mid-morning when the sun was hitting the whelping box).

Enjoy!

Noisy little furballs aren't they?! Do they get any quieter when their ears open?
