I think Elsie has had enough of this nursing business. What do you think?
This clip captured Elsie's last daytime nursing (three days ago). She's down to nursing only once a day now at night before bed -- and that we hope to end that in the next couple of days.
The goal is to have the pups completely weaned by the time they reach six weeks of age (which will be this coming Saturday).
Sweet Elsie girl...she's been a great mom!

I agree - she has that long-suffering look about her. Is she also a little thin?
Elsie is actually holding her own quite well, Julia, all things considered, but she is a tad bit underweight. Her coat feels lush and healthy, though, so we're not too worried. Nursing takes a heavy toll on the dam.
Elsie is still eat 4x the amount of what she ate before she got pregnant (I guess she needs it, eh?). And we'll keep that up at least for this week, and then slowly taper off once the pups are completely weaned.
We'll know how she's doing for sure when we see the vet next Monday. We'll keep you posted!
I too agree that Elsie looks like she may have had enough now, she has done a marvellous job and her puppies are a credit to her- :0)
Oh I think Elsie looks fine, the little we've seen her but I did see ribs so I was just wondering. I am sure nursing those now bruiser-sized pups would take it out of her! :) You've all been working wonderfully together.
